Activity in the Cévennes

Le Val d’Hérault campsite in the Cévennes is the ideal starting point for discovering the Cévennes National Park.

Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this massif at the gateway to Provence is an exceptional natural ensemble. It offers a wide range of activities, including sports and hiking.

Sports activities

Whether you’re a seasoned sportsman or a family looking for a discovery session, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor activities in the Cévennes. Rivers such as the Hérault and Gardons offer a wide range of options for white-water sports, a great way to immerse yourself in this authentic region.

From our campsite in the Cévennes, there are numerous sites for canyoning and water trekking, which are essential leisure activities in the Cévennes. For example, from the colorful town of Anduze, a specialist will guide you to the most beautiful scenery. You can also discover rafting, particularly in the Hérault gorges.

Activities in the heart of the cliffs

You’ll also find via ferrata for all levels. Combining climbing and hiking with aerial passages, these cliffside routes offer a different view of an exceptional setting. The Thaurac via ferrata, for example, is just 11 km from Le Val d’Hérault campsite: with its zip lines and suspension bridges, it’s the perfect introduction to this activity in a site of outstanding beauty.

Looking for a thrill? The canyons of the Cévennes are an ideal environment for bungee jumping. One of the best spots is the Pont d’Alzon, in the heart of the Cirque de Navacelles, just an hour from the campsite.

You can also go caving, canoeing, tree-climbing, paragliding or try the original velorail from Thoiras.

Hiking in the Cévennes

With no less than 5,000 km of marked trails, the Cévennes offer endless possibilities for hiking in an exceptional natural setting. Whether it’s a long walk or a leisurely stroll with the family, the paths will lead you to sublime landscapes. To get even closer to nature, you can opt for a gentle itinerary by hiking with a donkey.

One of the most majestic sites is the Thaurac plateau, just a few kilometers from Le Val d’Hérault campsite. You’ll also find some great hiking trails less than an hour from the campsite, from Corbès or Mialet, to Mas Soubeyran and the Gardons valley.

Among the region’s GR trails, we recommend the GR67 from Anduze, which forms a large loop in the Gardons, or the GR70: better known as the Chemin de Stevenson, it traverses the southern Cévennes and passes through Saint-Jean-du-Gard, a typical Cévennes village from where family-friendly walks start.

The signposted trails of the Cévennes are also ideal for mountain biking and electric mountain biking. And trail enthusiasts will be delighted by the sheer altitude of this mid-range mountain range.
