The Clamouse cave
In the south of France, the Clamouse cave is one of the most beautiful caves in the country.
With its exceptional galleries and originality, this cave is the perfect destination for a vacation in the south of France.
Why visit the Clamouse cave?
Located in Saint-Jean-de-Fos, in the Hérault department, the Clamouse cave is a must-see when visiting the Cévennes hinterland. This historic underground monument is certainly one of the most beautiful caves in the south of France. To get there, head for the Gorges de l’Hérault, near the Grand Site de France at Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert.
The cave is set in an exceptional natural environment, between the causses and the plains of the Hérault, at the foot of the Séranne limestone massif. What’s more, the Clamouse cave is classified as a scientific and scenic site by the French Ministry of Ecology. Its exceptional concretions and the diversity of its underground landscapes make it an absolutely remarkable site.
The Clamouse cave is one of France’s most extensive underground networks, stretching for over 17 kilometers. The cave was formed by the action of water, slowly seeping through the fractures. It comprises several levels of galleries, each corresponding to a progressive lowering of the Hérault river.
What can you do in the Clamouse cave?
The Clamouse cave is a real attraction, offering a variety of activities for everyone, from simple guided tours to dynamic trails for thrill-seekers.
The Speleopark
The Speleopark offers a fun and sporty tour of the cave, in small groups, under the supervision of a qualified supervisor. On this adventure, you explore Clamouse’s historic galleries using only headlamps, reinforcing the spirit of exploration. The course includes zip-line descents and crossings on suspension bridges above the caves.
Two caving-park courses are available, adapted to the age and preferences of visitors:
The first tour, accessible from age 8, offers a two-hour adventurous visit, with geological and didactic explanations.
The second, more demanding course explores the depths of the cave, and is best suited to those with previous experience or those who are not afraid of heights. This course, accessible from age 12, includes sections where participants crawl through galleries and fly over subterranean abysses.
The life-size Espace Game
A major innovation at the Clamouse cave, the Espace Game is a life-size escape game, incorporating riddles and clues that plunge participants into the fascinating history of the cave. During the Espace Game, the cave is fully privatized for players, and two scenarios are available:
A family escape game for teams of five to ten people, who must solve riddles by following clues, ideal for experiencing the first explorers.
A more intense storyline, designed for explorers in search of thrills and spills.
Rates for Espace Game are reasonable, and groups are supervised by experienced supervisors.
